The account of the baptism of Jesus is one of the most powerful passages in the Bible. This account of the Holy Spirit as a dove landing on Jesus is one of awe and questioning. It is one demonstration of the power of God and the importance of his Son, Jesus. But did the Holy Spirit take the form of a dove, or is that another lie of religion and the enemy?
Did a dove descend on Jesus?
The passages which depict this scene are Luke 3:22, Matthew 3:16-17, Mark 1:10-11, and John 1:32-34. The first four books of the New Testament must be overlayed, each providing the puzzle pieces—more information, to outline fully what is taking place. In this case, only Luke adds the form or shape of the Spirit descending on Jesus. This is seen in the following verse.
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
Luke 3:22 KJV
Here we see the Spirit descend upon Jesus as a dove when approaching its landing perch but in a bodily form or shape.
The Spirit of God, taking a bodily shape, descends as a dove upon Jesus.
Bodily form
The word bodily comes from the Greek word σωματικός and is defined as corporeal or physical. Corporeal is defined as follows:
CORPOREAL - relating to a person's body, especially as opposed to their spirit. - having a body.
The King James Bible’s archaic syntax leaves many confused. Despite its accurate depiction of events, people are more comfortable with modern language versions of the Bible. The argument can be made that bodily refers to the body of a dove; however, the New Living Translation sheds more light, providing the same meaning, but uses a simpler modern syntax.
and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.
Luke 3:22 NLT
This leaves no doubt about the form that descended on Jesus. This form was absolutely not in the shape of a dove. The shape the Holy Spirit assumed can be characterised as more like a person, a man, as opposed to a bird.
Conclusion
As with so many teachings, it turns out Christianity’s rendition is a lie. Those with understanding will know that this is not an oversight, but these harlots coral the goats and guard the exits. God is not found in religion but through submission to him and guidance by the comforter—the Holy Spirit—Him.
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:32 KJV
We must wholly humble ourselves and submit our lives to God to learn the truth. We must organise our lives around God and fit everything else into the available slots.
Many small lies cloud understanding, leading us down a path of confusion. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, and your eyes cannot be opened without him. Jesus is the way to the Father; the Father is the truth and life. When we lift Jesus (John 3:14), the Father will love us since following Jesus is to obey the words of the Father.
Jesus speaks the words of God.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:4 KJV
